Blind leading the blind? DAVID SLADE TO DIRECT DAREDEVIL REBOOT

Does anyone still hold out hope that David Slade can make a good mainstream movie? After the brilliant Hard Candy (2005) he turned in the atmospheric and entertaining 30 Days of Night (2007), a film which succeeded primarily because it embraced the strongest thing about the graphic novel source material - a vicious visceral visual sensibility. This wasn't kiddie stuff and it had some solid casting. Slade was still in his element.

But flash forward to last year's dismal Twilight film and a noticeable pattern began to emerge. The more money this guy has to spend the less vital his films feel. Now word comes that Slade has been picked to reboot Daredevil with a story that picks up where the 2003 film left off. No word on Affleck or Garner but Fox (of all studios) isn't likely to mess too much with a formula that made them almost $180 million dollars at the box office. Sadly, I look for Slade to wind up hamstrung by the suits,. Can a career as a Hollywood fixer be too far off? Let's hope not.
