Warner Bros to Snyder re: 'Xerxes', 'You're out. Guy's in'.
It would appear that the grace period between Warner Bros and Zack Snyder may be coming to an end. Word came out yesterday that Warner would be handing over the reigns of Xerses, the follow up to Zack's breakout film 300, to Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie. Oh what to think of this.

300 was a monumental success for Warner. It made a mint. But lightening did not strike twice nor thrice for the director as Watchmen and Legend of the Guardians did not reap the same rewards. Nowhere near the same numbers. Guy Ritchie makes Sherlock Holmes and it makes a tonne of cash as well. It would appear they are willing to overlook the lackluster performance of RockNRolla. Warner needs to make sure that Xerses knocks it out of the park.

Also, they've already got Zack attached to the next Superman film and that has to do well. There are already reports circulating that Superman has script issues. If that were not bad enough apparently Sucker Punch is not testing well right now [are you sure you're only showing it to 16 year old boys] and if that flops then Snyder will go 0 for 3 since killing it with 300 back in 2007. So the presumption is Warner has pulled Zack off Xerses so he can focus entirely on Superman

There is also a suggestion that Warner wants Xerses to bow in 2013 and if they wait for Zack to finish Superman then that will take too long. Don't you just love the business end of Hollywood.

A note Ritchie. If you do take on Xerses you're going to have to add another 5 or so pages of script. I admire your use of slow motion techniques more than anyone else but you don't use it nearly as much as Zack did. You're going to have to fill up some of that time you'll get back with something. Might I suggest a song and dance number? Perhaps something direct from the opera Serse by the German-English Baroque composer George Frideric Handel? Maybe even Ombra mai fu?
