ADMIRAL: XLrator Media Picks Up North American Rights For Dutch Seafaring Epic
Known on it's native soil by the name of its titular character Michiel De Ruyter, the Dutch historical epic film by Roel Reiné has been picked up for North American distribution by XLrator Media on their Turbo label. Here in North America it will be simply known as Admiral because I am sure that no one wants to piss off the Dutch by pronouncing De Ruyter's name wrong. Especially our own Ard. That guy writes the nastiest e-mails when he has been slighted.
ADMIRAL tells the story of one of the most famous and beloved historical figures in Dutch history, Admiral Michiel de Ruyter. When the young republic of the Netherlands is attacked in the 17th century by England, France and Germany, and the country finds itself is on the brink of civil war, only one man can lead the country's strongest weapon, the Dutch fleet: Michiel de Ruyter.
There will be some familiar faces in the cast, mostly playing English-speaking bad guys. Charles Dance from Game of Thrones and Rutger Hauer from Blade Runner would likely be the most recognizable.
"ADMIRAL is a dazzling film of epic proportions with larger-than-life naval battles that haven't been seen since Master And Commander. Audiences will be blown away by the amazing cinematography and action set pieces, coupled with stunning performances from the entire cast. As proven by the huge success of the "Game of Thrones" series and our own recent Ironclad films, action fans have a huge appetite for exciting content based on historical facts and themes. ADMIRAL is a unique and authentic film that will satisfy both action fans and history buffs alike," said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.
XLrator will release Admiral early in 2016. In the meantime we have included two trailers below and you can follow the link to Ard's review of the film.
