Full Trailer For DESCENDENTS/ALL Documentary FILMAGE Is Here!
The Descendents are the band of my life.
They know me better than anyone. Songs of love, songs of hate, songs of partying, songs of farts, it's all in there. Back in 1978, three guys came together to create the overcaffeinated surf music that would become The Descendents trademark sound, when a nerdy fifteen year old kid named Mile Aukerman came on board in 1980, it was all over, this was the band the world needed. The heart breaking love songs mixed in with songs about bass fishing and coffee, always the coffee, became the template from which all of what is now commonly known as pop-punk was forged.
It is no secret among my friends that The Ramones are easily my favorite band, however, no band makes me feel quite like the Descendents. For any mood I have, there is a song. There was a song for the lonely me back in the mid-'90s when I discovered the band as a teenager, and now that I'm a husband and father, there are songs for that too. In fact, one of the most wonderful things about The Descendents is that their music reflects their maturity but not in the traditional "hey, we're old now, let's get acoustic guitars and pretend we were influenced by folk music" way, more in the "I'm still angry, but I'm angry about real world grown up shit" way.
This is why it gives me so much pleasure to share the first full length trailer for Filmage, a documentary about the 35 year history of The Descendents and their Milo-less alter-ego, ALL. Utilizing oodles of archival footage as well as interviews with every living Descendent, Filmage paints a complete picture of this band whose influence can be found everywhere we look today, whether we know it or not.
This band is so precious to me that it pained me to recently discover that they are playing a concert in my home of Dallas right in the middle of Fantastic Fest this September. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do. I've never seen them, and this may be my last chance. Ugh.
I'll save that anguish for myself, though, and share the joy of this first full trailer for Filmage!
