And taking that honor will be? Monsters helmer Gareth Edwards. Oh, hell yes. Edwards, bluntly, is brilliant with effects without being in love with them and able to generate spectacle without losing his characters in it. If the producers have the good sense to let Edwards do his thing with this they've just guaranteed themselves a film that will both kick ass and have heart. I can't imagine a better choice.
