Melbourne Underground Film Festival Director's Home Raided, Charges Laid Following Banned Screening Of Bruce LaBruce's LA ZOMBIE
Melbourne Underground Film Festival director Richard Wolstencroft had his home raided and searched by police late last week in response to an August festival screening of Bruce LaBruce's LA Zombie. The hardcore gay zombie film has screened at film festivals around the world but was banned from screening in Australia, a ban that Wolstencroft ignored. The MUFF screened the film anyway at the stated day and time with the location only released on the day of. Police may not have shown up at the time but they rolled up later, searching Wolstencroft's house searching for the screening copy of the film, and left having laid charges against the festival director. The court date has not yet been set.
