Teddy Newton's DAY AND NIGHT Might Be The Best Thing About TOY STORY 3.
Don't take the title here as a criticism of Pixar's Toy Story 3. I took the boy to see it Saturday, we enjoyed it greatly, and while I think that the second installment remains the best of the trilogy and that there's no particular reason for Toy Story 3 to be projected in 3D - which it scarcely takes advantage of - it's still very, very good.

Teddy Newton's Day & Night, however, might be the best short that Pixar has ever produced. Simultaneously a throwback to classical animation styles and a forward looking manipulation of cutting edge effects - the 3D in this is stunning and I can't imagine seeing it any other way - Day & Night manages to be both playful and thoughtful while also recognizing that shorts are an entirely different medium from features, a fact it takes full advantage of. Basically, I just really, really like this film and think it dseserves some love seperate from the feature it precedes. So, here's to you Teddy.
