"Were Rabbit" sequel coming soon
What with the most recent split of Aardman animation from Dreamworks Animation, thanks to the flopping of "Flushed Away," Aardman is powering through and continuing on with a sequel to "Curse of the Were-Rabbit" now in the works.
"Wallace and Gromit are alive and kicking," said spokesman Arthur Sheriff. "There is a project on the table right now. It could be television, it could be a feature film. That depends on how the storyline develops. It will go into production as soon as he has finished writing it."
Aardman and Dreamworks ended their partnership Tuesday citing that their "ambitions have moved apart."
Which is not surprising, considering Aardman approached computer animation with the same sentiment as they have with their Wallace & Gromit series, while Dreamworks attempted a more commercial appeal pulling in only $63 Million domestically from its $149 Million dollar budget.
The suspicions were confirmed with Sheriff adding, "What we have achieved is our freedom to make the film we want to make."
"Nick loves creating stories for Wallace and Gromit and he feels they only really work in plasticine," Sheriff said, "He is a creative filmmaker, he doesn't sit around the table discussing money deals with the executives."
In spite of it, "Curse of the Were-Rabbit" was a successful venture for Aardman garnering critical acclaim, big business, and an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. A well deserved breath of fresh air, in our computer animated soaked film world.
Peter Sallis returned as the dimwitted Wallace in spite of Dreamworks insistence he be replaced with a big star, but the compromise proved successful, with Sallis providing his usual best voice work as Wallace, while Raiph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter provided supporting performances.
The sequel likely won't be released for a good while, but all of us Wallace and Gromit fans will be eagerly awaiting.
