Thanks to Gregory for steering the way to Vedma (Ведьма), another spin on the classic Russian ghost story Viy. We've already posted a few pieces on the upcoming remake of the original film version of Viy, a take on the story that maintains the period setting while employing its massive budget - currently reported as the highest budget ever in Russian film - to generate enormous amounts of over the top CGI work. Vedma, whose title transaltes as The Witch, on the other hand moves the story into the present day and while it is no less stylized it seems to be taking the old 70's era giallo films as a primary starting point and is leaving the bulk of the effects in camera. There appears to be a major problem in the audio encoding on the trailer - either that or there is yet another new AVI codec out there that I need to install - but there are nonetheless a handful of truly iconic images in there.
