THE BLOB Will Ooze Its Way Into Cinemas Once Again
It would appear that the life cycle for a The Blob movie is around 30 years. That is just enough time for a generation to get old enough to be called 'Okay, Grandpa!' when they gripe about another remake. We said it in 1988 when those old enough to recall the original in 1958 griped about that remake. Hell, that generation might have griped themselves when Beware! The Blob came out in 1972.

Alas, now it is our turn to be called old, Goldcrest Films is going to be producing a new The Blob this Summer. Simon West, who started out with Con Air and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider around the turn of the twenty-first century is attached to direct. West did a bunch of TV work throughout the rest of the 2000s then got back onto the big screen with a couple Jason Statham flicks (The Mechanic and the upcoming Wild Card) and The Expendables 2

via /Film: Pascal Degove, Managing Director Goldcrest Films said: "Simon West has a unique gift for blending cutting edge effects, awesome visual spectacle and a hint of humour. He's the perfect choice to reimagine The Blob and we're so excited to be partnering with him."

Simon West "With modern CGI we can now fully realize the potential of The Blob. The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It's a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans."

Goldcrest will launch sales and distribution of the film at this year's EFM in Berlin.
