Fantasia's Frontieres Co-Production Market Enters Year Two

With the first year of the Frontieres co-production market at Montreal's Fantasia Festival proving a rousing success it comes as no surprise that it's returning and growing in year two. But expecting something and seeing it happen are two different things so it's still good to see the following announcement:

Montreal, Wednesday January 16th, 2013 - Following a successful inaugural edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival's Industry Rendez-Vous, the festival is proud to announce a second edition of the Rendez-Vous and its Frontières International Co-Production Market, to be held from July 25 to 28, 2013. Frontières is the only co-production market to connect North America with Europe and Australasia, in an environment focused specifically on genre film production. The Rendez-Vous also includes the Fantasia Film Market, which made its official debut in 2012 to support the sales efforts of titles that were part of the festival's programming.
 
The first edition of the Fantasia Industry Rendez-Vous attracted over 250 subscriptions from members of the international film industry, making it a full-capacity event. Its Frontières Co-Production Market included 14 projects in its Frontières line-up and 10 in its Off-Frontières line-up, hailing from Quebec and Canada, the United-States, Mexico, the United-Kingdom, France, Australia and New Zealand. Participating projects included new works from seasoned filmmakers, such as Stuart Gordon and Bruce McDonald, as well as up-and-coming talent like Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, Paul Campion, Jason Eisener, Jorge Michel Grau, Steven C. Miller, Robert Morgan, and the RKSS crew. Thanks to the professional introductions made within Frontières, 5 projects found a co-producer, 2 projects found an international sales agent and 1 project is currently in pre-production.
 
The second edition aims at selecting a dozen projects for the Frontières line-up, from the same territories. Projects must be market premieres with a completed script and must be applicable to an international co-production environment where there would ideally be a Canadian production element. The Off-Frontières selection will also return to allow for the inclusion of projects in a wider range of development stages and production environments. The market is open to both seasoned directors and directors proposing their first feature film project. Directors and producers may start submitting their projects now and the submission deadline is March 26th, 2013. The selected projects will be announced in May. New facilities have been secured in one of the most modern buildings of the Concordia University campus, to allow for expanded meeting spaces and to increase the event's accreditations capacity. Accreditations will open in May.
 
The Fantasia International Film Festival, widely acclaimed as one of the largest and most influential genre film festivals in the world, will have its 17th edition from July 18 to August 6, 2013.
