Scott Weinberg Joins ScreenAnarchy As North American Editor
I've been hinting at some ScreenAnarchy-related news for a little while now and here it is: Scott Weinberg is joining the ScreenAnarchy team effective immediately as the North American editor. the role to be played by Jones The Cat has yet to be determined. To understate it a bit, I'm rather pleased with this. We actually wrote a formal press release for this so on we go with that:
VETERAN FILM JOURNALIST SCOTT WEINBERG JOINS SCREENANARCHY AS NORTH AMERICA EDITOR
International Film Website Expanding Coverage of Hollywood Fare
Los Angeles, CA (March 1, 2011)-- Deputy editor of AOL's Cinematical.com/Moviefone and chief film critic for FEARnet, Scott Weinberg, has joined international film site ScreenAnarchy (www.screenanarchy.com) as its North America Editor, it was announced today by ScreenAnarchy Editor-in-chief Todd Brown. Weinberg will be tasked with expanding the site's coverage of Hollywood movies and news.
The move reflects a natural expansion of ScreenAnarchy's editorial and geographic content, as the site aims to meet worldwide demand for information about the increasingly globalized entertainment industry. Founded in September of 2004 by Brown, ScreenAnarchy is now the industry's leading resource for news, reviews and discussion of the international film scene, with a particular focus on genre titles. With 40 contributors around the world, ScreenAnarchy is regularly the first to report on significant developments from emerging international markets.
Twitch was the first English language outlet to write about groundbreaking films such as LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (Sweden), THE TROLL HUNTER (Norway), the current wave of Japanese gore comedies, and the new wave of American indie horror.
The founder of ScreenAnarchy, Todd Brown is also the Director of International Programming at Fantastic Fest in Austin, a programmer for the Fantasia Festival in Montreal, the manager of the film program for Canadian Music Week in Toronto, and was the initial programming head for Toronto After Dark, which he helped to found and establish.
"The goal of ScreenAnarchy has never aimed to be anti-Hollywood or exclusionary to Hollywood, but my own primary focus has been so much on emerging international markets that I've simply never had the time to provide much in the way of consistent commentary on the US industry. Adding Scott to the team gives us the experienced, respected voice in that area which we have been lacking. Over the years I've been fortunate enough to move from considering Scott a peer to counting him as a trusted friend and ally and I could not possibly be happier about the chance to work with him at ScreenAnarchy moving forward. Scott brings exactly the kind of intelligent eye, sharp criticism, and enthusiasm that we need at ScreenAnarchy," said Brown.
Weinberg commented, "I've been a fan of ScreenAnarchy since long before most other sites were even born. Todd Brown has built a phenomenal team of writers who are both talented and endlessly passionate about global genre cinema, and that's a team a guy like me should be on. I plan to bring my own warped personality and (hopefully) insightful opinions about (mostly) American films. Yes, ScreenAnarchy is about to tackle the Popcorn Flicks. Be prepared!"
Currently the deputy editor for Cinematical / Moviefone and the chief film critic for FEARnet, Scott is a cranky old bastard who loves movies and arguing about things. He also admires cats of all sizes, horror films of all nationalities, ladies of all sexiness, and saying "aw, what a beautiful baby" before walking away, elated he's not actually a father. For more about Scott than you'd ever need to know, follow his rabid Twitter ravings. If you're an internet geek, you may also find Weinberg's older film reviews at outlets like DVDTalk, eFilmCritic, JoBlo, Mr. Skin, and several others. He's also a proud old member of the Online Film Critics Society (OFCS) and, despite his constant goofiness, takes what he does pretty seriously.
