The Many Faces Of Stacy Keach

Looking at this week's releases, one actor pops up in the two biggest films: Stacy Keach! He plays Chloë Grace Moretz' avuncular grandfather in If I Stay, and the pinnacle of human corruption in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.

These two roles immediately point out the actor's all-purpose versatility, easily usable as wither a menacing villain or the coolest family member. And while his filmography is eclectic, including classics and clunkers both, he is never the weak link in them.

Fun fact: despite being born with a severe cleft palate, also known as a "harelip", Stacy Keach grew up (after surgery on the lip and upper-mouth) to become a popular, handsome actor. And though the affliction is often linked with speech impediments, he managed to cultivate a voice pleasant enough to be used in many documentaries and animated films.

So once again I'm going to use eleven close-ups of one of my favorite thespians to make a quiz. Click through the images and guess which movies they're from. No competition, no prizes, just for fun. Try to see how far you get without using IMDb.

I'll post the answers next Thursday (or earlier if someone gets all eleven of them right).

And here are the two faces of Stacy Keach on display in cinemas this week. On the left he is Gramps in If I Stay, on the right he is the vile Wallenquist in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.

Both these pictures aren't part of the quiz yet, but the others are. Browse through them all, and see how many you recognize!

No, it is a film, but the role is close to one he played in a famous tv-series (not 30 Rock).

owenAugust 25, 2014 10:51 AM

what like a Mike hammer reboot?
wow this is a tough one Ard

Ard VijnAugust 25, 2014 7:00 PM

Finally! I've done a tough one!
Frankly I had never even heard of the film until I put this quiz together, I just loved this publicity shot of it. But it does exist, people have seen it and reviewed it. I don't get the impression it's much loved.

And no, Mike Hammer was not the series I was referring to...

Christopher BrownAugust 26, 2014 7:37 AM

Oh, I hate going on imdb, but is it the one with Tom Sizemore in prison? The racist prisoner and black prisoner one? Damn, I want to go on imdb!

Ard VijnAugust 26, 2014 7:49 PM

OK, I'm going to give you that one, because you're obviously referring to the right film. CELLMATES it is!

Ard VijnAugust 26, 2014 7:57 PM

And that concludes the quiz, one of the harder ones we've ever run!
Here are the correct answers, and who mentioned them first:

4: THE LONG RIDERS (Cutshaw)
5: NEBRASKA (Cutshaw)
6: NICE DREAMS (Nico C.)
7: CELLMATES (Christopher Brown)
8: ROAD GAMES (Cutshaw)
9: GREY LADY DOWN (Cutshaw)
10: BUTTERFLY (Christopher Brown)

Christopher BrownAugust 27, 2014 11:28 AM

Thank ya! I still need to see that one.
