Marché du Film: Alain Corneau's THE SECOND WIND (LE DEUXIÈME SOUFFLE)
Distribution rights for Alain Corneau's The Second Wind (Le deuxième souffle) are to be offered for sale by Wild Bunch (Exception Wild Bunch S.A.) at this year's Marché du Film in Cannes, which runs from May 16th to 26th. Warner Bros. France S.A. is scheduled to release the movie theatrically in France on October 24th.
As was previously reported here on ScreenAnarchy, the screenplay for The Second Wind (Le deuxième souffle) was written by Corneau, based on the eponymous novel Le deuxième souffle by José Giovanni. (Jean-Pierre Melville's 1966 classic Second Breath (Le deuxième souffle) was likewise based on that novel.) The movie stars (listed order corresponds to poster order) Daniel Auteuil, Monica Bellucci, Michel Blanc, Jacques Dutronc, Eric Cantona, Gilbert Melki, Daniel Duval, Nicolas Duvauchelle, and Philippe Nahon.
Here's a synopsis for The Second Wind from Wild Bunch's website: "1958. Gu, an infamous and highly dangerous gangster serving a life sentence, escapes from prison. With the cops on his trail, he plans to flee the country with Manouche, the woman he loves. Desperate for cash, he agrees to take part in one last job. Thanks to him, the hold-up goes without a hitch.
But the cops are manipulating things behind the scenes, and Gu's accomplices take him for an informer - a traitor.
To save his honour and clear his name, Gu will do whatever is necessary..."
