That Was Quick: Bollywood's GHANCHAKKAR Answers TRANCE In Record Time!
I'm only half joking here. It would be quite a logistical feat if Bollywood had managed to adapt Danny Boyle's upcoming amnesia thriller before it even hits theaters, but the similarities between that film and Rajkumar Gupta's upcoming Ghanchakkar are impossible to deny. Both feature a career criminal who commits a crime, loses his memory, and is then tracked down by his former compatriots/employers to unveil the whereabouts of the loot. Of course, it's not as simple as all that, but it never is.

Ghanchakkar is most interesting to me in that it reunites the stars of one of 2011's best Bollywood films, The Dirty Picture. Emraan Hashmi, currently on a career high following TDP and his role in Dibakar Banerjee's Shanghai, reteams with Vidya Balan, also riding her TDP success and that of her amazing lead performance in Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani. The two make a great pair, and star here as a married couple in trouble. Balan has also worked with director Gupta before in 2011's ripped-from-the-headlines No One Killed Jessica about the real life murder of model Jessica Lal, so there's some history there as well. Last but not least is the presence of character actor Rajesh Sharma, also a veteran of TDP as well as Special 26, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, and No One Killed Jessica.

Apart from the similarity to Trance and the interesting casting, there's nothing particularly flashy about this trailer. However, those two elements will likely be enough to get me in the cinema when the film opens in June.

Ghanchakkar opens worldwide June 28th.
