Here Comes Another HERCULES: Dwayne Johnson Gives It A Go In First Trailer
Just two months ago, Kellan Lutz made for a wan half-god, half-man in The Legend of Hercules, directed by Renny Harlin. Now comes the first trailer for the other 2014 Hercules, this one played by Dwayne Johnson and directed by Brett Ratner.

With a bigger budget, better visual effects, and a more muscular lead ... it's still a draw at this point. Having seen Harlin's version, it's surprising to see this trailer play off it -- declaring 'before he was a legend ... he was a man' -- especially since the upcoming film will revolve around an older Hercules, or, at least, older than the one played by Lutz.

Johnson is certainly an amiable enough star presence at this point of his career to play Hercules; it seems to be a character that's tailor-made for him. Ratner, however, is the sticking point; he's made a series of anonymous action pictures that sometimes make big money but are very straightforward and usually uninspiring, so that doesn't encourage much confidence.

Hercules will open in cinemas on July 25.
