MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO and GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES announced on BluRay

It's true folks: as the title says, Amazon Japan just put up entries allowing you to pre-order the utterly excellent uplifting "My Neighbor Totoro" and the utterly excellent depressing "Grave of the Fireflies" on BluRay. Both are planned for release on July the 18th.

When originally theatrically released in the eighties, these two films were often distributed as a double-bill and indeed Studio Ghibli will also be releasing a package combining the two films.

This is brilliant news for movie-lovers worldwide. Both films can be considered masterpieces, certainly amongst the best works ever created by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. The other Japanese BluRays of Studio Ghibli films have so far been regionfree and English-friendly, and there is no way to assume these will be different. Being Japanese, these are also quite expensive but Disney, Madman and Optimum will surely follow with their own releases in the months to come.
