Neill Blomkamp's ELYSIUM Has Wrapped
And now begins the long post-production process.

Though it's not due for release until 2013 industry watchdog Baseline reports that District 9 director Neill Blomkamp has wrapped principal photography on his sophomore feature, Elysium.

Blomkamp has kept a tight lid on details for this one, acknowledging little beyond that it will again be a science fiction picture. The cast - Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, William Fichtner, Alice Braga and Diego Luna are all on board - is fantastic and the involvement of Blade Runner designer Syd Mead is also a major plus.

The coming year will be occupied with extensive post production work - presumably with a great deal of special effects work - but with photography done I would also expect to see some images not too far down the line and the smart fan will be keeping a close eye on the website for Armadyne, a fictional corporation that features in the film.

I guess one other small tidbit is that Matt Damon will be bald in the movie. He was on The Daily Show last night, sporting a particularly short crew cut and said that he was finally allowed to start growing his hair again having just wrapped on this. He didn't say whether he was the only slapheaded character in the film, but Blomkamp could well be going for a THX1138 aesthetic.

Syd Mead is THE MAN. That's some great news.

Ridley Scott had better make his Alien prequel top-notch or he just might get blown out of the waters by this one.
