Spielberg Headed For The ROBOPOCALYPSE
Steven Spielberg is headed back to what he's best - and arguably one of the best in the world - at. Big, enormously scaled spectacle.

Deadline have just confirmed that Spielberg will next direct Robopocalypse, the big screen adaptation of Daniel Wilson's robot uprising novel. And, frankly, the idea of Spielberg bringing his skills and bankroll to bear in bringing massive robot carnage to the big screen is very, very appealing.

The secret sauce in this deal, though - the ingredient that makes me think this has a shot at being something truly exceptional beyond being just good popcorn fodder - is the involvement of screenwriter Drew Goddard. The former Buffy, Lost and Cloverfield writer is not just one of the most genre savvy guys in the business, he's also blessed with the rare ability to create believable, sympathetic characters in the midst of large scale madness so, hopefully, he can give the Spielberg eye candy some emotional heft.
