Will Zwartboek mark a triumphant homecoming for Dutch director Paul Verhoeven, who returned home to make his first non-Hollywood film in a very long time with this WWII project? Can't say for sure, but the early signs are yes.

The first trailer for Verhoeven's new epic has appeared online and this is the Nazi invasion done purely Verhoeven style, which means big, glossy, action packed, and with much better undergarments than Spielberg ever considered using in Schindler's List. Though who knows what Fiennes really had on under his uniform ...

Sexed up Nazi spy flick? Meh. Reminded me of Tinto Brass' SENSO '45 more than anything. Consider me not interested.

The best film Verhoeven has done (in my opinion of course) is the wonderful WW2 period film called "Soldier of Orange" nice to see him back in the genre.

Yeah, Caterpillar. First thing that popped into my head was Tinto Brass, too.

'Bout time Verhoeven came out with a new movie. This reminds me though, wasn't Rutger Hauer supposed to be working on a Dutch Resistance movie as well?

I'm sorry to say this but the trailer reminds me of many a bad tv-play or dutch film from the seventies, based on novels.
I fear Verhoeven turns back the clock ages in dutch cinema...
let's hope it's just the trailer
