Sitges 2015: Call For Submissions For Phonetastic Film Festival
There was a brief time where you were at a screening or your kid's current holiday recital and someone whipped out their iPad and started taking pictures. You thought, 'My. How silly is that dude?' It may not be as easy to make fun of them these days as our hand held personal devices have been utilized and incorporated into all genres of cinema and to greater extent the fantastic genres.

The folks at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia were already on the ball a couple years ago and they are once again calling for submissions to the third annual Phonetastic Mobile Sitges Film Festival.

The Phonetastic Mobile Sitges Film Festival, the festival for short films shot with Smartphones or tablets, starts its third edition with news and a good dose of the most innovative and exciting films for its followers.

Barcelona, January 20, 2015 - The festival of short films shot with Smartphones and tablets, the Phonetastic Mobile Sitges Film Festival, along with Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, announce the call for entries for this 2015 edition. All participants can submit their short films following the instructions on www.phonetasticfestival.com, from now until September 1, 2015.

Phonetastic is looking for short films with a maximum running time of 15 minutes, shot with a Smartphone or a tablet, and showing stories of the Fantastic genre: horror, science fiction, fantasy, mystery, suspense or martial arts. The winners of the two main categories, Best Film and Audience Award, will be announced at the closing gala of the Sitges Festival on Saturday 17 October, 2015.

Since the last edition, the films presented at Phonetastic and entering competition will be considered to compete for the award for "Best Short Film of Official Fantàstic Section" and the award for "Best Animation Short" both Sitges Festival awards. In the case of winning any of those categories, the short/s would enter for consideration of the selection committee of the Oscars as Sitges Festival was declared in 2013 "Qualified Festival" by Hollywood's Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

The online festival was born in 2013 as a project developed by Sitges Festival and the Mobile World Capital for the global community interested in cinema and mobility, and to give the opportunity to low budget but high motivated filmmakers who want to tell stories using the technology provided by the Smartphones and tablets. During its second year Phonetastic increased by 100% the number of films in competition, and got the support of talent such as Elijah Wood, Antonio Banderas, Álex de la Iglesia, Park Chan-wook, Takashi Miike and Eli Roth, among many others.
