Submissions Open For First Frontières International Co-Production Market In Brussels
Having already enjoyed two successful years at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal the Market Director of Frontières International Co-Production Market, Stephanie Trepanier, is taking her show on the road (really, I just think she was looking for an excuse to go to Belgium other than, '..for the chocolate!') and will expand the market to the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival in April, 2014.
I was able to enjoy a bit of the market during Fantasia this past Summer in my role as a Features Film Programmer for a much smaller film festival elsewhere in Canada and I have to tell you; there ain't no weekend like an Industry Weekend at a film festival. THE THIRD EDITION OF THE FRONTIÈRES INTERNATIONAL CO-PRODUCTION MARKET,THE FIRST TO BE HELD IN BRUSSELS, OPENS ITS SUBMISSIONSLos Angeles, Thursday November 7, 2013 - Following two highly successful editions of the Frontières International Co-Production Market at the Fantasia International Film Festival, the market is now expanding its physical reach to Europe, to hold its third edition at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, from April 10 to 12, 2014. Frontières is the first and only co-production market to connect North America with Europe in an environment focused specifically on genre film production.In 2012, Fantasia joined forces with Vision-in-Motion to apply for funding by the MEDIA Mundus programme of the European Commission, to enable an expansion of the market to Europe. It successfully won its bid and partnered with BIFFF as its European host. Frontières has thus become a circuit in-between Brussels, in April, and Montreal, in July.The market team is now setting up for the first Brussels edition of Frontières and project submissions are opening this Friday, November 8, 2013. Submissions will close December 20, 2013. 12 projects from European countries, Canada and the USA will be selected to be presented within Frontières this upcoming April in Brussels, to meet with producers, financiers, sales agents, distributors and production services entities looking to attach themselves to film projects in development.In the previous two editions of Frontières, established and up-and-coming talents of the genre film world were featured, such as Joe Dante (Gremlins), Andrzej Zulaswki (Possession), Bruce McDonald (Pontypool), Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator), Bobcat Goldthwait (God Bless America), Jorge Michel Grau (We Are What We Are), Jason Lapeyre (I Declare War), Richard Stanley (Hardware), Paul Campion (The Devil's Rock), Robert Morgan (Bobby Yeah) and Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead (Resolution), along with notable producers.To apply to Frontières, projects must be market premieres with a completed script and must be applicable to an international co-production environment majorly using European, American and/or Canadian shooting locations and production teams. The market is open to both seasoned filmmakers and directors proposing their first feature film project. Projects may be submitted by the main operating producer or by the director. Accreditations will open in January and the project selection will be announced in early February 2014.Following this upcoming edition held at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival - which will be held from April 8 to 20, 2014 - the Frontières International Co-Production Market will then return to Montreal for its 4th edition, at the Fantasia International Film Festival - to be held July 17 to August 4, 2014.
