Yuen Wo Ping to Direct Action Trilogy VIGILANTES

News out of AFM reveals that legendary martial arts choreographer and filmmaker Yuen Wo Ping is teaming up with Dragon Star Pictures to direct the first of a planned trilogy of action thrillers, entitled Vigilantes - The Lost Order.  The Canadian-Chinese co-production, from Dragon Star and Yuen's own Film Can Production, is scheduled to begin production next year, and is being touted as The Matrix meets Wall Street.

Vigilantes - The Lost Order is a contemporary-set English language martial arts extravangza that follows Tess, a kick-ass heroine on a mission of vengeance. Orphaned as a young girl by a murderous secret hit squad, Tess grows up to become an assassin who goes searching for those responsible, only to uncover a global financial conspiracy.

Birch Tree Entertainment is handling worldwide sales of the project and is representing the film at AFM. Vigilantes promises stunning action sequences and will showcase Yuen's unparalleled ability to create award-winning fight scenes together with a polished storyline.

The prospect of Yuen at the helm of a major English language action franchise is certainly an intriguing one, but the success or failure of this project is likely to come down to a combination of a strong, well-developed script and some astute casting in the crucial lead role.

Who would you like to see take the female lead in a Vigilantes trilogy?

Kill Bill meets Wall Street meets The Matrix...? This could be disastrous with way too many borrowed ideas. Hopefully it will be a great trilogy though!

They need a real female martial artist. Tired of them non martial artists trying to fight.
