Ajith Kumar Brings Back The Don In BILLA 2: THE BEGINNING Trailer

Chakri Toleti's upcoming Billa 2: The Beginning is among the most anticipated Tamil language films of 2012. The film is a sequel to 2007's Billa, starring Ajith Kumar, who returns in the titular role for the new film. Billa was a remake with aspects of both Shah Rukh Khan's 2006 Don, and 1980's Billa, starrring Rajnikanth, itself a remake of 1978 Hindi film Don starring Amitabh Bachchan. The family tree of Don remakes and sequels is getting crazier every year.

2007's Billa was a massive success, and not just commercially. While the 2006 Hindi version was among the finest Bollywood films of the 2000's, the Tamil version was also one of the slickest in that industry, and remains a high water mark for action in Tamil films. Ajith Kumar is a major star who is coming off a huge box office success in last year's record breaking Mankatha.

Billa 2 takes a look at the Don's beginnings in a Godfather 2 styled origin story. I'm definitely interested to check it out, and I have heard that they are planning on subtitling this film in English for theaters, which would be a godsend. Billa 2 is scheduled for release in late spring/early summer. Check out the trailer.
