First Art For Chris Smith's Teen Action Flick CHERUB: THE RECRUIT [UPDATE]
[I have just confirmed that this is the sales art from the Cannes market and that the film is still in development, so it's a ways off.]
What will be next for Severance and Black Death director Christopher Smith? There are rumblings of a Christmas themed adventure film to be produced by Tony and Ridley Scott. Recent interviews have mentioned werewolf title Bitch. He's got anthology projects Paris, I Kill You and The ABCs Of Death. And - with reports stretching all the way back to 2009 - he is also preparing a feature adaptation of Robert Muchamore's teen-spy novel Cherub: The Recruit.
Smith was last quoted talking about the BBC Films backed project back in early 2010, when multiple interviews citing him describing the picture as a cross between Shane Meadows and Spy Kids, but all has been quiet on the Cherub front for a while.
But maybe things are moving again now as Quiet Earth have dug up what appears to be the first promo art for the film. It's hard to say what this would have been created for as there are no production or sales company logos evident - though if it was a sales flyer, those could be on the back - nor is Smith's name anywhere evident. IMDB still lists the film as being in script stage with no cast attached, which would imply it's still a long ways out, but who knows? In many ways it appears that Smith is currently in a position very similar to Vincenzo Natali, with a number of projects on the verge of launching and the deciding factor between them likely being which gets the money first.
