A Super Furry Freak Out In The Trailer For SEPARADO!

Earlier this year I had the extreme pleasure of programming Dylan Goch and Gruff Rhys' film Separado! as part of the film program at Canadian Music Week, the first time the film had been shown outside of the UK. The hook for the vent was obvious - Rhys being the front man for Welsh rock act Super Furry Animals - but being a fan of the band is in no way whatsoever a requirement for enjoying this cinematic oddity.

A film that utterly defies categorization beyond the fact that it's a documentary, Separado! follows Rhys on an odyssey through South America while blending concert footage with a bit of a road movie aesthetic with a dash of social and family history thrown in. Rhys is an odd man in a totally charming way and this film is the same. It was by far my favorite of the titles at CMW and finding and programming it remains one of the all time highlights in the years I have spent programming for different festivals. Bluntly stated, I love this film. And I think you will, too. And to convince you of this fact I present the full trailer below, a trailer that matches the oddity of the film itself blow for blow.
