DEADGIRL Scribe Trent Haaga Stepping Behind The Camera For CHOP
It's not like, after Deadgirl, we needed proof that Trent Haaga had a pair of stones on him.  The scribe of one of the more controversial and talked-about films of recent years, Haaga is about to step behind the camera to make his directorial debut with a revenge thriller he also co-wrote and - in his very first time out of the gate - he is openly inviting comparisons to Fargo and Oldboy.  and that, friends, is a very odd combination but a pretty bloody fantastic one and Haaga is certainly demonstrating that he's not afraid to set the bar high for himself.  The film is titled Chop and here's the full announcement.

Trent Haaga, of recent cult film success "Deadgirl," announces his directorial debut with the independent thriller CHOP.  CHOP centers on a seemingly innocent young couple, forced by a psychotic stranger to
confront their duplicitous past. CHOP is a revenge thriller with a comedic edge in the tradition of "Fargo" and "Oldboy."

Haaga optioned the script from co-writer Adam Minarovich, and polished it to be his
first directing vehicle after working on 40 independent films as a writer, producer and/or
 actor.

The CHOP script was a hot property in Hollywood, nabbing its co-writer, Minarovich, a top agent within weeks of making the rounds.  Haaga received offers from numerous production companies, but secured independent financing after the 2008 Toronto Film Festival premiere of "Deadgirl," allowing him to retain creative control of the project.

CHOP is being produced by Chad Ferrin and Jeff Hamilton, and stars
powerhouse Indian actress Tanishaa Mukherji and newcomer Billy Bakshi.

Haaga has written award winning films including "Deadgirl," which had a sold out
theatrical run in all major markets, was released on DVD by Dark Sky Films, and was subsequently rated over 42 thousand times on Nextflix in its first
month of release. Haaga wrote the much-praised script for "Poor
Things," starring Lindsay Lohan and Shirley MacLaine.

Nuclear Mango is the production consultant. Cameras start rolling on Nov. 11 in Los Angeles.
