[Korean Film News] 44th Grand Bell Awards [대종상영화제] : Family Ties Wins B
No single film dominated the 44th Grand Bell Awards this year as did King and the Clown at last year's ceremony, and while Kim Tae-yong's intimate human drama Family Ties deservedly won the award for Best Film, Bong Joon-ho walked away with Best Director for his monster hit The Host. It is hard to imagine two more polar opposite films, both in terms of budget and in outlook, but both offered unique glimpses into modern Korean society. Family Ties took the 1st prize at the 47th Thessaloniki Film Festival in Greece in November of last year.
