Space operas have had a tough go of it lately, finding it hard to gain acceptance of a movie-going public that wants escapism but not if it is too weird. Perhaps Luc Besson's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets can find a way to crack that nut.
Besson was the director of one of the greatest space operas in the late 90s, The Fifth Element, and here we are 20 twenty years later with what we can only call the spawn of that great movie, all grown up and ready to show the World what it's got. And wow, oh wow, does this trailer impress us with jaw dropping visuals and art design.
I have alway felt that I was in the minority of devotees to Besson's The Fifth Element. Tell me there are more of you out there, but I love the heck out of that film so, so much. After seeing this first trailer so many memories have come back and this now has a firm spot on my must-see list for 2017.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will hit cinemas on July 21, 2017!
