Doug Liman Attached to Direct DC's DARK UNIVERSE

Yesterday, Variety brought word that Doug Liman is coming on board one of DC's next films, Dark Universe

Yep, the director of 2014's biggest 'Why is no one going to see this movie, it's sooo good?!?' film Edge of Tomorrow is entering a franchise that has to date, created the largest rift between professional movie watchers and critics, and the general public.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the story revolves around a dark Justice League team that consists of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon.

So this is what? Suicide Squad Redux? It would seem that DC is content to keep on going dark. Yes sir and madam, DC, the goth kids that hang out behind the janitor's office smoking cigarettes. The Dark Chocolate to Marvel's Vanilla. The Yul Brynner to Marvel's Clayton Moore (my biggest fucking analogy stretch to date).

Say what you will about the DC superhero films. No. Go ahead and say whatever you want because apparently it does not matter. Despite everything that critics have said about the recent DC films, how much of a hate-on it makes in their pants, most folks are content to test the DC waters for themselves.

But what if Doug Liman could save the DC Universe film franchise from the wrath of film critics and make a good movie? And what would happen if critics actually lauded an DC title?

What would the DC devoted do then? Are national healthcare systems prepared to take on such a high number of 'mind's blown' at the same time. If there is nothing left for anyone to hate-on what is left? Love? Pfft, like *that* would ever happen. We'll find something.
