Michael Fassbender reteams with his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard for the big screen adaptation of the hugely popular video game Assassin's Creed. Fassbender plays Callum Lynch, brought back from the dead by a futuristic iteration of the Spanish Inquisition, so they can unlock his memories and access the adventures of his ancestors.
The first trailer has now dropped and from what we can see here it looks to be a CG heavy combination of gloomy metallic sci-fi and earthy medieval cityscapes that doesn't immediately inspire much enthusiasm. However, the talents both in front of the camera - Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Michael K. Williams also co-star - and behind it speak for themselves. If the balance between high-concept action and tragic drama is pitched correctly, Assassin's Creed could be something very special indeed.
All will be revealed when the film opens in December.
