Hello from Fantastic Fest! Yesterday I had the chance to have an amazing conversation with Osgood Perkins the writer/director of the extraordinary horror drama February. Fans of deep psychological or spiritual insight, take note.
Perkins manages genre convention with a deftness I immediately connected with stuff like Session 9. He's telling a story here and he's exorcising personal demons -- literally. But he's never asking the viewer to hang in there 'till the next good bit. This is atmospheric, creepy as hell, and absolutely indicative of a major storyteller at work.
