XLrator Media announced today that they will distribute Josh C. Waller's action-thriller Camino. The film stars action star Zoe Bell, who led Waller's last film Raze, and ScreenAnarchy fave, director Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes, Open Windows).
Set in 1985, war photographer Avery Taggert (Zoƫ Bell) has built a solid career with her stark and honest imagery, all the while remaining emotionally distant from her subjects. When she embeds in the jungles of Colombia with a squad of missionaries led by a beloved and charismatic Spaniard known as "El Guero" (Nacho Vigalondo), she finds herself in the middle of a conflict as violent as any she's photographed. One night, she happens upon El Guero committing a heinous atrocity, capturing the vile act on film, an image with the potential to discredit and destroy El Guero. Knowing this brilliant psychopath will employ every tactic at his disposal to destroy that photograph - and the photographer who took it - Avery flees into the harsh jungle with nothing but the camera hanging around her neck to escape from missionaries twisted into violent guerrillas by the madman intent on destroying all enemies.
While I am eager to see Bell kick ass and take names I think the real draw for any ScreenAnarchy reader will be watching Vigalondo go full on religious psychopath.
And how did Vigalondo find his way into this project? Waller is one of the founders of SpectreVision (Cooties, The Boy), and he produced Vigalondo's Open Windows which starred another SpectreVision founder, Elijah Wood. Wood and Vigalondo met at Fantastic Fest a few years and have been BFFs ever since.
To complete the trifecta, the third founder of SpectreVision, Daniel Noah, wrote Camino and is producing along with Waller and Ehud Bleiberg who fully financed the film through his production company Bleiberg Entertainment. Blieberg is handling international sales along with Blue Box International at TIFF next week.
Camino co-stars Sheila Vand and Dominic Rains (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night), Francisco Barreiro (We Are What We Are), Tenoch Huerta (Sin Nombre), Nancy Gomez, Jason Canela and Kevin Pollak (The Usual Suspects, A Few Good Men, Casino).
