Today, Carol Reed's classic 1949 thriller
The Third Man is being re-released in the US. It stars the great Joseph Cotton and the great Orson Welles, the latter of which would have become exactly 100 last month, had he still lived. With him in cinemas again, let's have this week's quiz be about Orson Welles!
Many actors are called "legendary", but few earn it as much as Orson Welles. Because every single aspect of his life, whether an up or a down, seems to have plenty of rich stories attached.
And of course there are his tumultuous love-hate relationships with Hollywood, his works of genius as a director (isn't
Citizen Kane still the most highly acclaimed debut ever?), his great booming voice, his talent for showing insecurity and vile evil as an actor.
So once again I'm going to use thirteen pictures of one of my favourite thespians to make a quiz. Click through the images, and guess which movies they're from. No competition, no prizes, just for fun, try to see how far you get without using IMDb!
And I'll post the answers next Thursday, or earlier if someone gets all thirteen of them right.
And here he is as Harry Lime in The Third Man.
This picture doesn't count yet for the quiz, but all others do. So please browse through the gallery: click on the edge of the picture to get the next one, and see how many of them all you can identify!
