It is time once again to add another name to the endless parade of writing and directing talent to take a stab at adapting the Japanese manga and anime Akira to the big screen. The Wrap is reporting that "an individual familiar with the project" has told them that Daredevil showrunner (for 2016) Marco Ramirez has been given the opportunity to pen the script for the live action Akira film.
Ramirez has written a bit for television and nothing for feature films yet. According to the report in The Wrap, "Ramirez wrote many of the best episodes for the first season of Netflix's Daredevil". (Two. He wrote two episodes. Two of thirteen. Not many. Two. A couple at best.)
Oh, live action Akira film project. Why won't you die? This really has to be some kind of ploy, doesn't it? Throw the name out there and see what the fans do? When the amount of noise is at it's lowest THAT is when you greenlight it? Is this a battle of attrition? When fans of the manga and anime simply don't give a fuck anymore, that is when you go with it, when our defenses are down?
And poor Marco Ramirez. Dear studios, how many times are you willing to throw anyone to the anime wolves and expect anyone to survive?
