With an hour-long presentation by J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy and a bunch of cast and crew (including an almost magical appearance by BB8, the don't-know-how-they-did-that-but-probably-with-magnets stood that wobbled out on stage), fans were treated to this latest peek into what's to come next December.
From a wide establishing shot that passes a downed Imperial Star Destroyer (with a crashed fighter in front), to TIE Fighters, X-Wings and the Falcon sweeping through, the nostalgia on this one is set to the highest level, making many giddy at the return.
All the right things are being said - it's a return of sorts to the "used universe" of the Original Trilogy, and from the looks of things there will be plenty to go gaga for.
Yes, that's a charred Vader mask, and that saber that gets passed around was owned by Luke and Leia's dad. We get a better look at the new troopers, some nice variations on classic shots from Return of the Jedi, and a general sense that in this new trilogy things are going to get a lot darker before they get light again.
Plus, that capper - yes, it's good to be back. Yes, it's good to come home.
