BACKCOUNTRY: Joel Kinnaman Stars In Survival Thriller

The survival thriller Backcountry (not to be confused with Adam MacDonald`s Canadian wilderness survival flick of the same name which opens today!) is currently in production over in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Other than The Giant Nickel, Sudbury pretty much exists in every Canadians mind come tax season right about now. It is where all our returns are processed, thus this is the only time of year a letter from Sudbury is dreaded or celebrated.

Outside of that niggling thought at the back of our minds the feature debut film of Rob Connolly has been filming there of late. Production will conclude at the end of the month. The suspense thriller is written and produced by Kyle Mann (Push).

Elliot Baker (Kinnaman) seizes the chance to develop a better relationship with his sons when his ex-wife Karen (Rachelle LeFevre, Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) and her new husband take a vacation and leave the boys with him.  What starts as a bonding opportunity turns into a nightmarish adventure when they get stranded in a deserted cabin near the lake as night falls and a snowstorm rages.  Bradley (Holland) 15, and Caleb (Hynes-White), 12 quickly learn more about their father and what they truly mean to him in this gripping tale of family and survival.

Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman (Robocop and The Killing) is spending a lot of time in and around Ontario. After this shoot he is sticking around for Suicide Squad. Young actors Tom Holland (Billy Elliot the Musical) and Percy Hynes-White (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb) will play his sons.

Shiloh Fernandez (Evil Dead) and Rossif Sutherland recently joined the production. Rossif is the son of the Donald Sutherland, and he must have just booked it over from Laos and Jamie M. Dagg`s The River, which just wrapped production, to join the cast.
