Actor Leornard Nimoy, forever known around the world as Spock from the Star Trek franchise, passed away in his home in Bel Air today. He was 83.
Nimoy had revealed to his fan base in January that he had Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, a disease in the lungs that progressively makes it hard to breathe. "I quit smoking 30 years ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!!"
Apart from playing the role of Spock for the past 50 years, Nimoy was forever delving into geek culture. From one of his first roles in the 1952 movie Zombies of the stratoshphere to one of his last roles as William Bell on the popular sci-fi show Fringe Nimoy never strayed far from the weird and the fantastic.
Be you a trekkie or follower of any other franchise everyone knew who Leonard Nimoy was. The world of geekdom has lost one of it's greatest patriarchs. Nimoy was also an author, a screenwriter, director, photographer and recording artist.
His final tweet to his fans on February 22nd was, "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP"
You will not be forgotten Mr. Nimoy. LLAP indeed.
