THE BABADOOK And PREDESTINATION Win Big At Australia's AACTAs

Two festival and fantastic film favorites from last year, Jennifer Kent's The Babadook and The Spierig Brothers' Predestination, took home a bit of hardware at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts.

Jennifer Kent's The Babadook took home the top prized, Best Film. It shared the award with Russell Crowe's directorial debut The Water Diviner, the first time two films have taken home the top prize. Kent continued on winning though, taking home Best Direction and Best Original Screenplay.

Predestination was in the running for most of the award categories. Sarah Snook took home the award for Best Lead Actress and the film also won for Best Cinematography and Editing. Spierig Brothers' films are always technically excellent.

The AACTA is the industry engagement arm for the Australian Film Institute and was established in 2011. So though the awards are only four years old, it's lineage goes back to 1969. The awards are decided by the Australian film industry members.
