There is a lot to mull over here. Ghost in the Shell is pretty much an revered institution in the anime and manga world. I do not know if the Ghost in the Shell fans and the Marvel Universe fans inter-mingle at any point, other than conventions, and only then by proximity. But Johansson (and her Avengers stunt doubles: Heidi Monkeymaker, Casey Michaels and Helen Steinway Bailey respectively) has (have) proven herself (themselves) as Black Widow and an action heroine in the Marvel films.
But like another laboring live action Hollywood adaptation, Akira, Ghost in the Shell has a devoted fan-base that may not want to see Hollywood muck about with it. Should anime adaptations be left to only the Japanese? They do okay with their own material and we are waiting to see what they have done with their adaptation of the much younger franchise, Attack on Titan.
So what say you? How do you feel about this? Is Scarlett the right woman for the role? Should Hollywood/Dreamworks even attempt the adaptation of GitS?
