Sundance 2015 Competition Slates Announced

One of the most exciting days on the indie film calendar is here at last. The competition slates for next month's Sundance Film Festival have just been announced, and there are plenty of interesting developments to pour through.

The main event is the US Dramatic Competition and this year's selection includes films starring Jack Black, Sarah Silverman, Guy Pearce, Taylor Schilling, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Notable directors in the section include Craig Zobel bringing his follow-up to Compliance in Z Is For Zachariah, Kyle Patrick Alvarez's much anticipated C.O.G. follow-up The Stanford Prison Experiment, and Andrew Bujalski's Results which follows his wildly popular Computer Chess. We'll also be treated to directorial debuts from Kris Swanberg (wife of Joe) and actress Marielle Heller.

The US Documentary Competition features subject matters ranging from Evel Knievel to Mexican drug cartels and amateur porn to Himalayan mountain climbing. Notable directors include Louis Psihoyos (The Cove) with Racing Extinction and Laura Gabbert (No Impact Man) with City of Gold. In the World Documentary Competition we find subjects ranging from Chinese coal mining to alien intelligence. And the World Dramatic Competition features films starring such heavyweights as Nicole Kidman, Michael Fassbender, Toni Collette, and Vincent Cassel.

Quite interestingly, this year NEXT sections seems a bit more packed with notable filmmakers and stars than usual. Sebastian Silva, who has already had a film in World Dramatic (Crystal Fairy) and a film in Midnight (Magic Magic) at Sundance shows up in NEXT with his Kristen Wiig-featuring film Nasty Baby. Rick Alverson follows-up his US Competioner The Comedy with Entertainment that stars Gregg Turkington, John C. Reilly, Tye Sheridan, Michael Cera, Amy Seimetz, and Lotte Verbeek. But there are plenty of new faces in the section as we've come to expect as well.

Check out the full lists below and let us know what you're excited to see. We'll be back with much more on these films and the other sections yet to be announced as the fest draws nearer.
