Simultaneous screenings have apparently also been planned in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Rome, with all proceeds from the events going towards free speech charity Article 19.
But what will the secret film to be screened actually be? Is it possible that they plan to actually screen The Interview?
The press release states:
It seems almost impossible logistically for Secret Cinema to pull off a multi-city screening of an unreleased film, but just such an audacious, unprecedented event sits firmly within the mandate of the organisation. However, the film could just as easily be something symbolically similar, such as Michael Radford's 1984, Francois Truffaut's Fahrenheit 451 or - let's be honest - pretty much anything that features the theme of oppression or censorship. Hell, it could be Team America or even Hackers for all we know, but for the moment at least, the anticipation can fuel all kinds of speculation.Secret Cinema passionately believes in the freedom to create and is looking for partners to join them in hosting a screening that will happen simultaneously across the globe. We invite and encourage people across the world to host your own screening with us. All proceeds from the London screening will be donated to ARTICLE 19 the worldwide free speech charity. The film, for the moment is secret. Please come dressed in a dark suit, and bring a small gift for a stranger.
Currently, the actual film to be screened has yet to be disclosed, and neither have the screening locations. But for those interested, tickets for the London screening can be bought here and for more information about other screening venues and ticketing, visit the official Secret Cinema Facebook page here.
