The story centres on a traumatized American volunteer doctor on leave in Laos who flees into the interior after he intervenes to help the victim of a sexual assault and kills the assailant.
Not to take away from these gentlemen and all that they will accomplish, but, our friend Mattie Do, Laos' only female director and director of Chantalay and the upcoming Dear Sister is also producing this flick. Mattie is one super cool chick and if you have had to chance to meet her on the festival circuit this year you would know that I tell no lies. It is good to see her working in other areas of the Loatian film industry and furthering its growth.
According to a report from Screen Daily today XYZ Films just bought the North American sales rights for the film which is aiming for a September debut, in the heart of festival season.
Shooting is set to begin in January and marks the first North American production in that country."XYZ takes great pride in our track record of identifying young talent and we believe writer-director Jamie Dagg is a perfect fit for us," said head of international acquisitions Todd Brown. "He's a young, powerful voice telling an internationally-set tale with universal appeal and we couldn't be happier to help bring him to audiences."
