STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Gets Titled: THE FORCE AWAKENS

If we needed another indication that we're building up to another rise/fall/rise story arc for the third of the Star Wars trilogies, this latest title certainly fits the bill.

Announced today on the official site, the forthcoming film from Director J.J. Abrams will officially be named Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

There will be much gnashing of teeth, of course, about whether the title fully conveys the 30's serial motifs of the previous films, but it's at least a lot less clunky than the likes of "Age of Ultron" as a suffix. One big change seems to be the use of ITC Serif Gothic in the title, rather than Trajan or the Franklin Gothic used by the "A Long Time Ago..." text.

Yes, this counts as a big change.

There have loads of leaks, many I've chosen to avoid in the hopes of having some surprises come December 2015 (the eventual release of images of the Lego sets are usually my first descent into major spoiler territory).

Still, we've got a title, I guess we've got a short version to bandy about (TFA?), and only a year or so until we see just how well these guys can pull off the near impossible, making the work its own thing while still being true to what has come before.

Time will tell...
