Presented in partnership with Film Hub Central East and the BFI's nationwide Sci-Fi program 'Days of Fear and Wonder' this weekend long event will explore the theme of the created woman. It is a theme that gets explored a lot within the sci-fi genre, "through creating the "perfect" woman, creation gone wrong, constructing wives and daughters through to conjuring of the woman".
Chris Cooke, Mayhem Co-Director and The Created Woman Co-Programmer, says:
The program was curated by Mayhem Co-Directors, Chris Cooke and Steven Sheil, and London Film Festival Programme Advisor, Sarah Lutton. For just £5 per ticket you can see Frankenstein Created Woman, Weird Science, Metropolis, The Stepford Wives, Solaris (1972 and 2002), and Cherry 2000.
As part of an exciting science fiction strand we've put together an amazing programme of cult science fiction cinema. There is something for everyone, from big budget classics like Solaris and Westworld to low budget insanity with Cherry 2000 and the Tilda Swinton-starring Teknolust, from Hammer films to silent masterpieces like Metropolis, but what we want to do with this season is look a little deeper at one of the most enduring themes of the science fiction film, the creation of artificial life and specifically 'The Created Woman'. From the early days of the genre the theme of 'building' women has been key... and these women have been at the centre of the story, from John Hughes' 80s hit Weird Science through to creepy classic The Stepford Wives.

During the weekend the Broadway Lounge will be transformed into the Sci-Fi Salon. There you can watch a series of free screenings including Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde, The Bride of Frankenstein, Metropolis 2001, Teknolust and Westworld.
