Raven Banner Entertainment and Anchor Bay Entertainment have tied a house arrest anklet around Gerard Johnstone's tremendously entertaining film. It seems like it has been a long time coming for genre fans in Canada since the film bowed at SXSW in the Spring. I know it has been a long time because we were desperate to program it for the Saskatoon Fantastic Film Festival last month and we had to go through the European sales agents to get it!
"Housebound is a masterful blend of comedy and horror, it held my funny bone hostage and captured my heart at this years Fantasia Film Festival. We're happy to share this wonderful film with the world." says Susan Curran, Director of Marketing and Acquisitions for Anchor Bay Entertainment Canada about adding the film to their catalogue. Michael Paszt, Managing Partner of Raven Banner Entertainment echoes the sentiment, "We look forward to bringing this amazingly well-crafted film from talented new director Gerard Johnstone to audiences across Canada."
No word in the press how they will release the film. Give 'em time. You have waited this long, you can wait a bit longer. They will give it the release it deserves. On top of wowing genre fans, critics agree, "Housebound manages to balance consistent, fantastic comedy with a properly eerie mystery and what should be a star-making turn from lead Morgana O'Reilly" praises Fangoria and ScreenAnarchy.com notes that the film "quickly tears apart the classic haunted-house movie piece by piece, and then reconstructs it on the fly with fresh new materials, garnished with oodles of blood, dark comedy, strong characters, and genuine suspense."
