Dermot Mulroney stars as a paternal figure with a lovely teenage daughter (Stefanie Scott). They've recently moved to Chicago, next door to a family with a handsome teenage boy, but soon all thoughts of teenage romance will be tossed aside because it seems that a ghost lives in the building.
Billed as a prequel to the first two films in the series, this entry was written by Leigh Whannell, who takes over the directorial reins from James Wan. The two teamed up most famously on Saw, so Whannell is intimately familiar with the horror genre.
The first Insidious picture was driven by a good teaming of Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, though I thought the sequel was more muddled and less satisfying. And number 3 faces the challenge of delivering anything surprising when we know how things will be set up in the future. But I'm always up for a good ghost story, so I'll hope for the best. Insidious: Chapter 3 is scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on May 29, 2015.
