Peter Dinklage will star in an adaptation of Joe R Lansdale's 2013 novel The Thicket, according to Variety.
Gianni Nunnari's production company Hollywood Gang (300: Rise of an Empire and Immortals) will handle production with Shannon Gaulding. Dinklage will also produce with partner David Ginsberg under their new banner.
Set in feral East Texas in the early 20th century, this dark thriller follows an innocent young man named Jack who goes on an epic quest to rescue his sister after she has been kidnapped by violent killer Cut Throat Bill and his gang. Jack enlists the help of a crafty bounty hunter named Shorty (Dinklage), a grave-digging alcoholic son of an ex-slave and a street-smart prostitute. The three track the girl into the deadly no-man's land known as The Big Thicket -- a place where blood and chaos reign.
Maybe it is because I am a fan of all things Lansdale but it seems like more and more of his works are being picked up recently. This has been a great year for Lansdale adaptations. There was Jim Mickle's excellent adaptation of Cold in July. Then Mickle and partner in crime Nick Damici want to adapt his Hap and Leonard series of books to television. Now, everyone's favorite Lanister is going to star in an adaptation of another Lansdale book?
This calls for a trip to the corner store for some Dr. Pepper and Vanilla cookies.
(Here in Canada The Thicket will be released on paperback on October 14.)
