The first promotional videos stamped the mystery as a Ben Affleck vehicle, which makes sense; he plays a husband whose wife goes missing in a high-profile case, and he comes under very vocal suspicion. Now we get to hear further from his wife, played by the exquisite Rosamund Pike, and she furthers the idea that he may be to blame, that he may, in fact, have killed his wife.
We also hear from the likes of Tyler Perry (gulp!), Neil Patrick Harris, and others, although it's Perry who stands out for me, unfortunately not in a good way. Perhaps Mr. Fincher has figured out a good way to make use of Mr. Perry's limited thespian abilities. And perhaps we'll all be so swept up in the mystery and the drama and the thrills that we won't be too troubled by what the supporting characters are doing.
The movie opens in the U.S. theaters on October 3. You can watch the trailer below.
