If you want to start catching up on your reading- just in case the opportunity presents itself and you can film your friends during those WTF moments, like in that other HBO show, and post them on YouTube- you will start with Oryx and Crake, then Year of the Flood and finish with MaddAddam. I have not read these books either (Bad Canadian! Bad! <slaps own wrist>) I feel compelled to do so now so I will not be one of those caught gaping on camera. The story in the MaddAddam books, part of Atwood's self-described genre of "speculative fiction," is set in the mid-21st century in a world where corporations have taken over for governments and the genetic modification of organisms is perversely ubiquitous. It centers on the events before and after a Waterless Flood that wipes out almost all of the world's population and follows an extensive cast of characters, including those responsible for the apocalypse and those struggling to survive it.
